Hawaii is a beautiful place and you can enjoy it on any budget. We are devoting this section to give some ideas on how to explore Oahu “local Style.”

Oahu Transportation

Airport

You can take to bus (Bus #19 or #20), a shuttle, a taxi, or rent a car.

The Bus

If you are traveling with one carry one, the bus may work for you. The fare is $2/person and they will leave you about block from the Sheraton Waikiki.

Shuttle Bus-Waikiki Express

You can schedule a shuttle in advance, and you can arrange one upon arrival. Shuttle bus fares are approximately $9/person. They will charge you extra if you have more than two bags. Going the airport, shuttle fares are cheaper, especially if you use any of the coupons available (see coupons below).

Taxi

A taxi from the airport to the Sheraton costs approximately $30 - $40. There a number of taxi companies outside the airport.

The Honolulu Airport Division has an extensive list of companies offering shuttle, taxi, Waikiki Express bus service. Please make sure to visit their website. http://www.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/hnl/hnl_ground_trans.htm

Transportation around Oahu

Honolulu has a fantastic transit system. You can go almost anywhere by bus. The bus fares are $2 per adult and $1 per children under 17. You can always ask for a transfer and ride back to the hotel without paying again if you use your transfer ticket within 2 hours. If you plan to visit few places, you are probably better offer getting the 4-day Bus Pass. It is valid for four consecutive days of unlimited travel. You can purchase this pass at any 7-Eleven or ABC Stores. Routes and schedules are available at www.thebus.org

The SuperFerry

In July 2007, the Hawaii Super Ferry will start service. The Super Ferry will be a wonderful way to do Island hopping. If you rent a car, you can take it with you to Maui, and Kauai. If you don't have a car, you can still enjoy the Ferry and have a nice view of the outer Islands. At each Port, there are always taxi drivers waiting for you. Check their website for additional information: http://www.hawaiisuperferry.com/main/faresroute/rtssched/default.aspx

Eating

Dining alternatives are abundant in Waikiki. Visit this website for a list of restaurant in Waikiki http://www.restauranteur.com/hi/oahu/waikiki.htm. Most restaurants have early-bird diner specials.

At the Waikiki Shopping Plaza, located across from The Sheraton Hotel, you will find few fast food restaurants including Subway, Pizza Hut, Bakin-Robbins, a couple of Chinese restaurants, a sushi bar, and a café. The International Market Place, located about 3 blocks from the Sheraton, also has few small restaurants offering Chinese, Pilipino, Korean, Creek, and Mexican dishes.
